Sleepwalking or somnambulance is a strange sleeping disorder that affects up to fourteen percent of children at some time before they are teenagers. Around a quarter of them will experience more than one episode of sleepwalking. For some reason, more boys than girls sleepwalk but most somnambulists grow out of the issue before they are teenagers.

Sleepwalking is in fact a brain disorder as well as a sleep disorder, but it is a brain disorder of the nervous system which normally corrects itself as the sufferer matures. By way of explanation, usually, as people wake up, the whole body and whole brain wake up together, whereas with sleepwalkers, the mobility part of the brain and the body wakes up, but the cognitive/awareness part of the brain stays sleeping, at least for a short time.

At least that is one clarification, because as with so many items to do with the brain, no one really knows, all that can be agreed by everyone, is that the child is still in a deep sleep when it is wandering around.

When the child is wandering around, the eyes are open, but the face appears extraordinarily impassive. The child can see but still trips or stumbles and still bumps into things. Usually, the child will not listen to a conversation or react to hearing its name.

The most common time for an bout of sleepwalking to take place is within the first two hours of sleep. The periods of somnambulance normally last from fifteen minutes to two hours and the sleepwalker may get dressed and go outside.

Although it is wise to bring this condition to your doctor’s attention, no remedy is normally necessary other than putting better security on all exterior doors and locking windows at low level to prevent the child from leaving the house.

They usually grow out of sleepwalking sooner or later. If you child sleepwalks, all you ought to do is lead it back to bed without waking it up unnecessarily. It is not dangerous to wake up a sleepwalker, but not essential either.

Roughly one percent of adults sleepwalk too, and this one percent are not inevitably the ones who sleepwalked as children. Adult sleepwalking normally has other more prosaic causes such as stress, worry and insomnia or even some medical conditions such as epilepsy. When the reason goes away so does the sleepwalking.

Treatments vary significantly relying on the severity of the ‘sleepwalk’. Does the sufferer only go down and sit in the living room or does the sufferer open the door and go outside where there is heavy traffic? Hypnotism is one remedy.

There are other safety measures that people living with sleepwalkers can or maybe should take. Because sleepwalkers are prone to bumping into items, make certain there is nothing projecting anywhere that could poke them in the eye. Hang bells or wind chimes in places where they tend to go and on doors that they use in order to alert you that they are on the move.

Lock certain doors with deadbolts and take the key out and finally make certain that all low-level glass is toughed and covered by curtains at night so that they do not attempt to walk through them without first opening them.

People connect sleep apnea with overweight adults, mostly males, and this profile does tie in with most sufferers, but in fact everybody ceases breathing at some time when they are asleep. Not every night as with sufferers of sleep apnea, but every now and again.

Even babies may stop breathing sometimes. This can be a terrifying experience for parents and carers. If you are worried about your baby suffering from apnea, you could get one of the baby sleep apnea monitors.

There are three forms of apnea, which means ‘without wind’ and comes from Greek: central, obstructive and mixed or complex apnea. Obstructive apnea is by far the most common kind and it is also the explanation why babies get apnea most of the time too.

Although a small amount of apnea sometimes is quite standard, constant apnea could be a signal that something is amiss medically. Two of the causes in babies could be inflamed adenoids or tonsils, which could have significant consequences.

It is a problem to tell what is going on with babies at the best of times, but when a baby is suffering from apnea, you might become aware of snoring, gasping, colouration and restlessness.

Obstructive apnea normally only happens during sleep when muscles are relaxed, however, central apnea can take place at any time of the day or night. Central apnea is caused by a part of the brain that controls breathing not working in the correct manner. This type of apnea is more common in premature babies.

Mixed or complex apnea is a blend of the other two forms and is also pretty common in children.

Your physician, the nurse or the midwife will check for apnea and may suggest that you buy one of the various baby sleep apnea monitors. One of the concerns with these baby monitors is that none of them is completely reliable to detect the cessation of breathing. Therefore, the better baby monitors will have a heart beat detector as a back-up.

The monitor should also be able to activate an alarm outside the room where the baby is, so that the parent or carer can walk about the house without having to worry about checking up on the baby on a regular basis

These remote alarms are usually wireless these days and they might also have a vibration alert. This is a very useful role. The last thought is the power source. Batteries alone are not really good enough.

The best forms are rechargeable. That is, they function like a mobile phone. This means that the sensor can be attached to the cot and the baby wherever it is, even when there is no local power source.

Have a great time if you are going to or planning a Golfer’s Retirement Party, but if you want to get a better understanding of retirement, please go to our web site Retirement Planning.

With all the various events that take place over the course of time in your life, it is inevitable for depression to dawn on you at some certain point. Although feeling blue once in a while is normal, the frequency and intensity of the depressive feelings may indicate that something more than normal sadness is present. This might already be clinical depression which is a serious medical and psychological condition.

When dealing with depression of your own, or of those around you, find immediate attention and seek treatment as soon as is possible. Before the condition worsens and affects more aspects of life such as relationships and health, this is a necessity.

Dealing with depression is easier said than done. In order to get the best treatment results time, effort and patience are needed. It would be best to address whatever may have caused the condition first. In order to apply the proper techniques and treatment, it is a good idea to find the root cause, whether the cause is stress, a trauma or something else.

Dealing with depression is easier if there are surrounding people who understand and care. The support group usually consists of family and friends. Members should focus on making the patient feeling that they are not alone, and they will be there to support them. It helps both thoughts and emotions to be relaxed when simple, attainable goals are achieved, and priorities are in order. It can be as simple as taking a walk with a friend or calling a loved one.

It would be best to go out and socialize as much as time permits. Whether it is with the members of the support group or not, socializing will help a person suffering from depression veer away from the feeling. The best way to deal with depression is to have a positive approach to everything. Throw away the bad things one by one and start focusing on the positive things that happened, is happening, and will happen.

Talking to others and sharing thoughts to a psychiatrist and trusted people would help alleviate the burden that one is feeling. A listening ear and a shoulder to lean on can help dealing with the condition a lot easier. Try to not dwell as much on the sadness, pain and anger, as those are only triggers that will worsen depression. Keep track of those thoughts and reflect upon them.

Everyone should ensure that they not only eat healthy, get plenty of rest, and manage stress; they should also enjoy spending time doing some of their favorite things such as meditate or anything else life has to offer. Take long inspirations by keeping open mind.

Patience is needed when dealing with depression. You’ll prevent more emotional, social, and physical damage if you get it treated right away. In relation to depression, it is vital that the condition is treated to encourage better health.

No longer will you worry about how to get over depression when you possess the knowledge to control Depression. Understand more on what to do about depression now.

Depression is a serious condition that needs treatment as quickly as possible, though many with this problem do not want to use medications as a means to get rid of their illness. The exhaustion they feel is very relatable. Lots of medication even anti-depressants can cause side effects, particularly when misused. This article examines holistic remedies for depression that may help you to recover from your illness.

Exercising can help the body release endorphins, a type of neurotransmitter responsible for boosting mood. Your condition can benefit greatly from holistic treatments like yoga and acupuncture.

A way to rid yourself of depression for good will be a reduction in your stress level. Getting a hobby, meditating, and getting enough sleep are some of the things that you can do to reduce anxiety and relieve depression. Foods that are eaten can also possibly affect the state of your depression.

St Johns wort or Hypericum perforatum is an herb that works the same way as antidepressants, with reduced side effects. It is capable of removing one’s anxiety, stress, insomnia and melancholia and also helps in changing mood. Depression that is mild to moderate is often aided by St John’s Wort. This can be bought in capsule, tablet or tea form from health food stores.

Studies have shown that individuals who have a higher dietary intake of Omega-3 fatty acids are less likely to suffer from depression compared to those who have minimal intake of this nutrient. Many people take supplements that include Omega-3′s in them especially if they do not eat enough fish or fish oil which is a good source of Omega-3′s. Folic acid is an example of a B vitamin, and is found in legumes, fortified grains, fruits and vegetables (especially green leafy veggies). Depressed persons should consume foods rich in folic acid to become non-deficient of it. This is because studies have shown that persons whom are depressed are low in folic acid.

Caffeine and alcohol can make your depression worse by lowering your mood, so avoid caffeine, alcohol and sugar. A crash from all the sugar you consume can worsen depression and make the sugar rush not worth it. To avoid experiencing these problems, it’s better to eliminate or regulate your caffeine, alcohol, and sugar intake.

If you use herbal remedies, you will want to know if there are any potential side effects, particularly, if you have a sensitivity to certain chemical compositions. For example, St Johns wort can cause dizziness and indigestion. It is advisable to check in with your physician prior to trying a natural remedy to cure your depression, as he can properly give treatment and advice on how to treat it.

Furthermore, some herbal remedies may not be the best option for you because of possible side effects, interaction effects with the medications you are currently taking, or your current condition such as pregnancy and pre-existing medications. It is advisable to consult your physician before taking natural remedies to ensure that there are no future health problems.

A lot of people who burn the candle at both ends, use up not only all their physical strength, but they also tend to over-extend their mental powers to the point where they plainly need a proper holiday.

A lot of busy people who are unable to understand the idea of relaxing and taking time of from work, as well as from their worries, have nervous breakdowns, anxiety depression and all sorts of mental illnesses that cause a person’s sanity to go haywire. Luckily, if you are one of those people who is unable to relax and who is always worried and fussing over things, there are several cures and treatments available for dealing with anxiety depression.

Anxiety depression is actually notable for all kinds of strange behaviour and erratic mood swings in the person who is suffering from it. This is usually due to specific stress triggers. Furthermore, many people who tend to get quickly worked up over stressful situations are in fact prone to having anxiety depression. It is actually a matter of being strong-willed when it comes to facing problematic and stress-prone activities. It may be pretty hard to do at first, but trying to be cool, calm and collected in times of extreme pressure is what is going save your sanity from going into a downward turn.

When it comes to effectively curing oneself of a mental illness, one must keep in mind that one has to be honest with oneself and assess what kind of depression or mental illness one actually has. Go to a reputable psychiatrist to get yourself diagnosed correctly as well to get the right depression treatment. Here are the various types of depression:

Manic or Bipolar depression – is characterized by sudden and extreme mood swings where one minute the sufferer is in an high state of euphoria while the next minute (day or week) the sufferer is in a personal hell.

Postpartum depression – characterized by prolonged sadness and a feeling of emptiness in a new mother where physical stress during child birth and / or an uncertain sense of responsibility towards the new born baby are some of the possible factors why some new mothers go through this.

Dysthimia – characterized by a perfunctory similarity with bipolar depression, although in this case, it has been proven to be a lot less severe. However, any case of depression should be treated immediately.

Cyclothemia – is characterized by a similarity with Manic or Bipolar depression wherein the individual suffering from this mental illness can sometimes suffer from severe changes in moods.

Seasonal Affective Disorder – characterized by falling into a rut only in specific seasons (i.e. Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall). Studies, however, prove that more people become depressed during the Winter and Fall seasons and lastly, mood swings, wherein a person’s mood may shift from happy to sad to angry in just a short period of time.

However, the type of depression that has been shown to be most common is anxiety depression, which is actually characterized when someone is being overly anxious about some things. Anxiety is a normal behaviour that actually will help a person cope more with certain stressful activities like a first date or a gruelling exam the following day. Anxiety does actually help you get psyched up towards dealing with certain “difficult situations”. Therefore, anxiety is actually a good thing.

Anxiety depression however, is just the opposite. However, it should not be lightly dismissed as a “case of the jitters”. Anxiety depression is in actuality an disease that can be caused by the actual biological DNA of an individual, or in other words, it can be an hereditary disease.

Also, there are actually various types of anxiety depression too, each of which has its own unique characteristics. Take for example Generalized Anxiety Disorder or GAD. This kind of anxiety depression is a lot more complicated than the average anxiety depression, in spite of it possibly being a day-to-day problem for those who suffer from this kind of anxiety depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder actually makes the individual much more paranoid than usual. Anxiety attacks are more frequent, even absurdly so at times.

Suffers can become anxious even when there is no real explanation that calls for them to behave in that way. Those people suffering from Generalized Anxiety Disorder often show several characteristics varying from from lack of sleep, to being unable to relax, becoming tired easily, inability to concentrate and suffering from depression. However, this sort of anxiety depression is also curable though.

You ought to consult a reputable cognitive behavioural therapist who will recommend the therapy that you need to help you to relax. Furthermore, prescribed medicines are a necessity to help these individuals deal with anxiety attacks, assist them to calm down and help them relax.

Technically, a headache, or cephalalgia, is a symptom of various conditions of the head and sometimes the neck too. They can be classified into two main groups: primary or idiopathic, and symptomatic, although there are other ways of classifying them too; for example by severity.

Put simply, primary headaches have a known or unknown cause, whereas symptomatic headaches are often caused by trauma. Primary headaches include: migraine, tension headaches, cluster headaches and coital headaches, amongst others.

Coital headaches, also called coital cephalalgia or sexual headaches, is a rare, but severe form of headache that starts in the nape of the neck during sexual intercourse, but before climax. It can occur in all conditions where climax is the expected result. The pain can move to behind the eyes and can then be even worse. Typically the pain will last from a few minutes to an hour or so, but it has been known to last for days in the worst cases.

Men are three times more at risk to coital headaches than women and the age groups most at risk are those between 20 and 25 and 30 and 44. Nobody really knows why this should be. Coital headaches affect about one percent of the population, although this number could be a lot higher due to people being embarrassed to talk about it.

Coital headaches are benign, meaning that they have no long-term ill effects, as far as we know. It seems that people taking sexual stimulants, like Viagara, are about 10% more at risk to a bout of coital headache. In fact, besides the obvious, temporary pain, the worst effects of coital headaches are differing levels of dizziness, confusion and stiffness of neck.

However, it is still worth while going to a doctor though, especially in the early cases, just to exclude the more severe causes of headaches, such as brain tumours and blood clots. However, the doctor can do very little to help by way of therapy. He could recommend a complete abstention from any kind of sexual activity for a period varying from days to weeks or he may suggest trying taking medication some time before sexual activity commences.

A few of the headache medications that can be used are indomethacin, imitrex, zomig and propranolol, although if the headaches continue, your doctor could suggest some other preventive medications to be taken on a daily basis. Sufferers of frequent coital headaches may also experience a positive response to migraine preventive medications, such as beta blockers or verapamil. Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen may also be helpful. Coital headaches and migraines are also more likely to occur if the person is in poor physical shape.

Nevertheless, the cure for coital headaches for a lot of people can be as simple as adjusting your weight up or down to the norm for your size. Coital headaches can also be treated in some sufferers by an increased level of exercise, although this may stimulate exertion headaches in some people.

The good news is though that most headaches related to sex are not serious in nature. In deed, various studies actually suggest that orgasm can relieve headaches and migraine in some cases. This implies that for some adults, refusing sex may actually be the reason that delays headache treatment.

We all know that having a cold can give you restless nights, but there are other more significant illnesses that can cause sleeplessness too. However, it is not just the illnesses themselves but the medications as well can cause sleepless nights. Some of the most common diseases that can cause an interruption of sleep are: arthritis, kidney disease, mental illness, acid reflux, diabetes, thyroid issues and neurological disorders.

Some kinds of heart disease can also have an effect on sleep patterns. For instance congestive heart failure and coronary artery disease. These problems will obviously put the patient under fairly strict medical care.

Sufferers of the two heart diseases listed above run a high risk of developing obstructive sleep apnoea. Obstructive sleep apnoea is a less significant disease than any heart disease, but it can have serious consequences too, including elevated blood pressure, which makes it difficult if it is not treated.

The difficulty with obstructive sleep apnoea is that sufferers are normally the last to know about it, because it does not really cause the sufferer any discomfort although it can still have disastrous consequences.

The only real cure for obstructive sleep apnoea is either the loss of weight which is not easy for heart patients or the wearing of an oxygen mask at night, which is called CPAP.

Diabetes can result in Restless Leg Syndrome, which involves the involuntary thrashing around of the legs during sleep. This leads to a very restless night for both the sufferer and the partner as the kicks can get fairly violent – absolutely enough to kick a football. Thyroid problems can lead to nocturnal sweating which can make the sufferer feel hot, damp and unpleasant

Neurological disorders like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s epilepsy and strokes can make the sufferer have concerns with REM sleep and insomnia. People who have had a stroke might also suffer from obstructive sleep apnoea.

Sufferers of asthma and other respiratory illnesses will have worries sleeping. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease will cause insomnia and sleep fragmentation.

Mental health problems such as depression, SAD’s and anxiety also lead to sleep disorders – normally also those of sleep fragmentation and insomnia.

GERD and acid reflux cause a burning sensation in the abdomen whilst the sufferer lies down, making it very hard to sleep during an attack. There are tablets for this that are occasionally effective and raising the head a couple of inches can help too.

Kidney disease can also cause restless leg syndrome and those with arthritis have difficulty getting to sleep because of the pain.

The point about all these causes of a restless night is that it is the underlying cause that is more significant than the consequence – that is, the restlessness. These are significant conditions, some of which can be cured. Once the main problem is solved the secondary one will disappear as well.

Narcolepsy is a quite rare sleep disorder, which causes sufferers to fall asleep at any second of the day whether they are weary or not. Narcolepsy is a neurological disorder, meaning that the brain sends orders to the body that it is tired and should go to sleep right away and the body obeys whatever it is doing.

Attacks of narcolepsy most frequently occur while the sufferer is doing something quiet, like watching TV or reading, yet it can also occur whilst eating or driving, which is of course highly dangerous. Some people fall asleep in the middle of a chat or at work in the middle of a piece or work.

As with a number of other disorders like restless leg syndrome and sleep apnoea and even snoring, it is not usually the sufferer that is first aware that he or she has a problem. Very frequently a spouse or colleague is the first to alert them to their condition and frequently it take quite a time before they will believe it and even longer before they do anything about it.

There are five indications of narcolepsy, but not all sufferers will experience all five of them: daytime drowsiness, broken sleep patterns (a kind of insomnia), sleep paralysis, hypnagogic hallucinations and cataplexy. If you have any of these symptoms, you should have yourself checked out, in case you also fall asleep at the wheel or when carrying out a dangerous manouevre at work.

The first and most noticeable symptom is daytime drowsiness. Sufferers of narcolepsy might have the irresistible urge to go to sleep during the day five or six times or more. Narcoleptics call these ‘sleep attacks’ and say that they last for from five to ten minutes every.

Broken sleep patterns are not a ideal means by which to judge as many people suffer from insomnia for other reasons too.

Around half the sufferers of narcolepsy experience sleep paralysis, which is when the sufferer can neither talk nor move for a number of minutes just before falling asleep and just after waking up. It can be very scary for the narcoleptic and the family.

About the same percentage suffer from cataplexy, which is the loss of muscle control whilst awake. The bouts of cataplexy occur usually for short periods of time during episodes of great emotion. For instance, when the sufferer is very angry, very glad or very emotional. Occasionally, the sufferer falls down and goes limp – it looks as if they have dropped asleep, but| they are totally awake and fully conscious.

A hypnagogic hallucination happens slightly before falling asleep or and just after waking up and involves seeing incredibly vivid images or and hearing very lifelike sounds.

These experiences are often accompanied by sleep paralysis and most people find them very alarming. Normally, the sufferer cannot distinguish between this hallucination and reality during a bout.

There are other symptoms which transpire occasionally such as migraine or headaches and ‘automatic actions’ which are not quite correct, like putting books away in the fridge or writing off the edge of a page. Narcolepsy can be treated with pills.

There are a large number of well-known kind of headache, which include, but are not limited to: sinus headaches, migraine headaches, tension headaches, chronic headaches, blood pressure headaches, chronic cluster headaches and tension headaches.

A migraine headache can be a rather severe, debilitating headache. This kind of headache has a deep effect on the every day lives of its sufferers. The pain is either a pulsating sensation or sometimes a throbbing kind of head pain. This throbbing pain can vary from moderate to severe. The symptoms of migraine headaches include nausea and extreme audio-visual sensitivity. The migraine type of headache usually comes with a precursive warning feeling sometimes called an ‘aura’.

This aura is experienced in the form of changes in visual perception. You may see bright flashes or blurs and sometimes you may even lose part of your vision. You may even experience a numbness or a tingling in your arms. These warning symptoms will fade a while before the migraine attack begins. A migraine headache can last for about three days without any treatment, before it subsides.

The types of tension headache cause a dull, constant pain in the forehead, the sides or back of the head. Some people liken a tension headache to a tight band wrapped around the head and it is considered to be one of the most common sorts of headache. A tension headache does not create symptoms such as light sensitivity, loss of sight, nausea and vomiting.

Tension headaches occur in episodic or chronic kinds. Generally, most sufferers of this sort of tension headache, experience chronic headaches. It is thought that about 40% of the population suffers from tension headaches. Chronic daily headaches are another of these types of headache.

Most chronic daily headaches are tension headaches or headaches that result from ingesting too much pain medication. With these kinds of headache, the pain is of a constant, dull nature – there can also be a feeling of tightness like a rubber band around the head. A chronic daily headache is distinguished by its duration: the pain must last for at least 15 days per month during a three month period of time.

Another kind of headache is the Cluster headaches. This is a rare but very painful type of headache. The name of the headache arises from the fact that the headache pain happens in clusters. Often, periods of Cluster headaches may last weeks or months. This time period is followed by long periods of no headaches.

Cluster headaches are usually to be found on one side of the head only. Usually the sharp, penetrating pain begins behind one eye. Cluster headaches cause red, teary eyes, a stuffy nose and sometimes symptoms like nausea and sensitivity to light may be present too.

These are just a few of the many types of headaches that can be experienced. The pain from the headache can be mild or it can be excruciating in its severity. To find relief from these headaches you must talk with your doctor about treatment or you can buy some over the counter headache pain medication.

Anger, a perfectly normal emotion, can change into something frightening and ugly. The first thought you might have of anger issues may bring about images of a couple fighting, a parent abusing a child, a teenager lashing out at a teacher or a parent. Rarely will images of angry children come to mind. Unfortunately youths, at very young ages, have to deal with feelings of anger and rage. This is a truth which is often difficult for adults to understand or deal with.

Children, young children especially, aren’t normally aware of their emotions. When a child becomes upset or mad they just show these emotions through their behaviour. A good example of this might be a little boy in a supermarket who throws a tantrum because he’s upset. Many parents have had to deal with similar circumstances. It is sad that often these occurrences are overlooked or dismissed because they are “just children”. Anger management in kids is as important, or probably even more important than anger management in adults.

A child requires instruction and guidance from their coming into the world to their entry into adulthood. The things they learn throughout their young lives are likely to form the person they become as an adult. For this reason, anger management in children with difficulties controlling their temper is extremely important. Finding ways to teach anger management for kids might present challenges.

There are programmes designed specifically for kids with frustration, anxiety and anger management issues. Finding one that works for a particular child might require testing many methods. Not all youths will respond to the same treatments for anger management for children. Because a child cannot always relate their feelings surrounding angry outburst, finding the right way of tackling it may take some time. Until the issue is resolved or at least controlled, it is imperative to continue the search.

Young youths may respond well to worksheets, games and fun activities. All of these can be used to great effect to teach anger management for kids. Developing programs which incorporate each of these methods might be the best way to go. A child completing a worksheet, colouring sheet or participating in games and activities with underlying messages with regard to anger management for kids, may not even realize they are working on their anger-related problems.

Making the activity fun doesn’t mean that the anger issue has to be omitted. Choosing fun activities which teach healthy interaction and decision making might be good for anger management for kids. Teaching them to take turns and helping them to learn that they can’t always be the best or the winner would definitely make a difference when confrontational situations arise. Little activities which instill values and positive thinking would be beneficial for anger management for kids.

If a child is old enough to talk about their anger problem, encouraging them to share their feelings is important. Suggesting they talk to someone who they feel comfortable with and trust is a good idea regarding anger management in children. Asking them to write or make a drawing about their emotions may help them disclose their underlying issues, whether fear, hurt or sadness.

Teaching them to ask for help when they feel threatened or angry would definitely help the child with an anger-related problem. The important detail to understand when considering anger management in children are they are just “kids”. Their minds are just not equipped to handle adult situations and so they will require a more delicate approach.
